pushing myself
I'm frustrated, to say the least. Several days ago, Shelby and I had this idea of giving each other a piece of inspiration in the form of text. We would then use this to create some piece of... art.
She gave me a short poem.
I said I would write a song out of it. Which, at the time sounded easy. But it's not. I've never succesfully written something on my own. I enjoy collaborating more than anything else. But I guess this would be a form of collaboration. Anyway. I've given up for now. I've tossed my guitar to the side.
I'm now listening to The Raincoats, but really what I want to do is listen to Sisters of Mercy and drink this bottle of wine I bought a couple of weekends ago when I was drunk.
Still unopened.
The inspiration I gave Shelby was a one-liner: It's not that I can't hear you, it's just that I don't understand.

Rave/+/Rant
Rave:
Biking to work only takes 15 minutes. Half of the ride is along Lake Union and it's gorgeous, especially on a day like today. It's sunny. I expect to be ripped come summertime.
Rant:
Orca cards suck ass. They don't give frequent riders any sort of discount like the old system did. This makes me want to bypass the card system altogether and instead pay my fare in pennies.

New Things
Listening to the new-ish Vivian Girls record that I picked up at their show last night at the High Dive. Reminds me of high school...in the good way. Like, going to 2nd Ave Pizza.
I proposed to my friend, who works at Neumos, to do posters for free so that I can play around with analogue styles I'm really digging. Mostly the inspiration comes from this guy. The first one she threw my way was for a jam band I'd never heard of. This is what I came up with:
It kind of blows my mind how long it took me compared to how long something would take me to do digitally. Towards the end I cheated a little and made some edits in photoshop. I'm excited to be doing things by hand with a product that's tangible.

And it Ends with Tea
Ever since I [sorta] built that desk in my room, I've pretty much just been spending most my time at it. I tried getting some work done, but that didn't pan out so well. Flipped through one of my favorite picture-books, We're Desperate. This is my all time favorite photo from it:
Also been playing my guitar a lot ever since I got it back from the shop. I actually spent the majority of my night like this: play guitar--get tired--listen to ty segall--pick up the guitar, play some more--get tired-- so on and so forth.
A self portrait, of me and the guitar. God, it's almost as amazing as that Epiphone Olympic I had when I was 17...

Funn
God, what a busy weekend this was. Though, don't really feel like going into too much detail about it. Was at KEXP hanging with & live-bloggin for cmrtyz. Check it out here. Just got back a little while ago from hanging out with Devin--my 1st and only boyfriend from 7th grade (it was a long term relationship...a whole week).
He introduced me to my new favorite board game, Hero Quest.

Such a good game. On the car ride back we enjoyed a trip down memory lane. We compared stories of how awful we were to other kids in middle school and how we both just wanted to fit in with the popular kids. It also didn't help that we were both super fucking gay in our own ways and trying desperately to mask it. If only we had been in better communication with each other about our struggles. We could have been each others beards.

All About Abuela, Pt. 2
I was g-chatting with Abuela today (yes, g-chatting), letting her know I was going to be late for family dinner tonight. The conversation was probably longer than it should've been. She basically wanted to send out Abuelo to pick me up from work and delay dinner until I arrived. Boring conversation all around.
Clearly she was getting tired of arguing with me over how I shouldn't take a cab, etc, etc. She comes out with this gem:
"me: no no no, abuela. no quiero que los planes cambian por miZoila: a veces toca, y no es por que tu te dormistes o algo por el estilo, es por el trabajo. Bueno ya di si y me retiro que tengo cositas que hacer"
And now, I will spend the rest of the day wondering just what cositas she so urgently needed to tend to.

Hello From the Past
I was browsing gigposters.com and thought to enter in this show I used to put together back when I was in high school. It was called Black Box. It was actually started up by someone else, but I kind of picked it up once they moved off the island. It was a sort of underground punk venue...held at the Jewish community center. Go figure.
Anyway. I found a poster I had made from back then on gigposters. It is actually the first digital poster ever made by these hands.
And it is hideous. Before this one, everything was cut/copy by hand. I wish I could find some of those.

Busted!!!

Translation:
It occurred to me today to look at your facebook page, andI found that you have written a comment containing the word that begins with "f". Sacha, don't pick up the habit of speaking with that type of vocabulary. You are a very intelligent woman. I love you very much, your Abuela.
I. Love. My. Abuela. Holy crap, she is the coolest woman ever. The other night I was feeling under the weather, so what does she do? Visit me with homemade soup and groceries and joins me for an episode of Anthony Bourdain.

I like knowing that she's got her eye on me. It might seem creepy to some to have their facebook page under surveillance by their grandmother. But I guess I just love knowing that she cares enough to the point that she's willing to take on facebook as a means to keep in touch with me. She, like the rest of my family, knows every side of me and is still able [at the end of the day] to say that she loves me and is proud of the person I've become. I don't for a second take that for granted.

New Band Name?
My buddy Stephen.
Let's see...there's Crystal Stilts, Crystal Castles, Crystal Antlers... Crystal Eyes, anyone?
I mean, if we wanted to get really crazy, I could go with Glass-fill-in-the-blank. What is it with these bands anyway? I've never actually listened to any of them, but if I were to start a band suddenly I'd probably stick glass or crystal in the name. Get some misdirected google searches my way.

Technically Yesterday
I made good use of my day today. Woke up late, but took a nice walk down to the market area to pick up my pants from the tailor. On my walk back up the hill I stopped at Twice Sold Tales and got some books that looked interesting.
The one that I'm especially excited about is Klondike Lost. Cool images, sure, but also just cool in general.
Upon arriving home, I got a second burst of energy and decided to setup a desk in my room.
I made it using one of the doors from my closet and two of my strobe light cases to hold it up. Pretty cool, huh? Once the desk was up I put it to good use by finishing up the new LICK! poster.
It's still pending revisions, but I figured I'd put it up anyway. It's weird looking back at what I started off with. I mean, I was originally using a photograph of Richie Rich (of Heatherette fame). Lord knows how I ended up with this.
